Survival and Outdoor Links
I have no interest in promoting specific products, unless I've personally used them, and am not seeking "sponsors" or other commercial connections, so these links mainly focus on the people I am aware of and respect, and their skills, rather than equipment.
Ray Mears
Well-established survival expert, presenting a huge variety of information, always from the point of view of respecting other cultures and doing better things for the planet. Highly recommended for anyone studying outdoor skills, and lots of interesting history to be learned
Dave Canterbury and Pathfinders
Host, along with Cody Lundin, on Discovery Channel's "Dual Survival", and an experienced outdoorsman, Dave is the real deal, combining military training with practical experience. What's remarkable about Dave's character to me is that he seems to keep the same level of motivation all the time. When he's not filming for Discovery, he's all over the country, teaching various Pathfinder courses, producing new videos, experimenting with new techniques, etc.. He's my favorite overall, due to his sincere and down-to-Earth approach to self-reliance. (over 500 videos)Check out Dave's YouTube channel, for a huge wealth of information
I did a lot of outdoors things as a young man, and had gotten away from it, for all the usual reasons. It was Dave Canterbury's down-to-Earth presentations that got me going again, in about 2008. He's near the top of my list, for the motivation alone.
The Nutnfancy Project
(Overall, this my favorite self-reliance site)
If I had to rank my favorites in this list (as of 2012) I'd have to rank this man and his YouTube channel as my favorite.
There are particular things about Nutnfancy's presentation that validate what he says and does, to me. This is a person with a lifetime of (serious!) great experience, who is humble, and yet completely firm and positive. When you watch him test tools for example, he REALLY tests them strongly, for long periods of time. If the tool breaks, he'll show you exactly when and why, in a outdoor situation, under actual use. His friends, who sometime travel with him, are great people, and knowledgeable too.
A huge wealth of information and gear reviews presented in a real and responsible way, (over 1000 videos) by retired Air Force Lt. Colonel and law enforcement/SAR expert.
Sepp Waldhanwerk
I love Sepp's YouTube channel. Here's a guy who really loves sharing information with people, in the most cordial and humble way possible.
Ebiczebulanious - The Bushcraft Lab
If you're smart enough to trust the voice of experience, check this fantastic YouTuve channel for some very practical advice, on many survival-related subjects.
Cody Lundin
Host, along with Dave Canterbury, on Discovery Channel's "Dual Survival", Cody is an experienced survivalist, and a teacher of the Aboriginal life style.
"Analytical Survival"
This is an award-winning YouTube channel ("Best Preparedness YouTube Channel") which very calmly lays out the things you can do to be prepared for a serious problem. It also includes all episodes of the History Channel's "After Armageddon" special, which is based on historical evidence, and is hugely enlightening.
REI
One of the premier gear suppliers, covering just about any outdoor activity.
